The design of fire protection systems is a process.

Consulting includes a wide range of activities other than system design. These activities relate to some aspect of understanding the fire threat, identifying the vulnerabilities of life, property or business operations, and developing conceptual defense solutions that are reasonable and cost effective.

Examples of consulting services include: water supply testing and analysis, fire hazard analysis, code analysis, life safety analysis, fire modeling, egress modeling, analysis of existing fire protection system design and performance, and commissioning of new fire protection systems.
