Fire Protection Designer

Location:  Duluth, Georgia (Metro-Atlanta)

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for fire protection design tasks including: sprinkler layout, pipe sizing, hydraulic calculations, fire pump selection, fire alarm, and fire suppression system layout.
  • Responsible for review of fire protection system contractor shop drawings, equipment information, hydraulic calculations, agent flow calculations, and battery/voltage drop calculations for conformance with all applicable requirements. Must also provide written comments.
  • Responsible for performing on own or assist other engineers with research, water supply testing and analyses, calculations, field surveys, fire protection system inspections, construction observations, and acceptance testing.

Qualifications:
  • Education and/or Experience:  AutoCAD experience is required. Associate’s degree in fire protection engineering technology from an accredited or certified program is preferred. Other comparable education will be considered. NICET Level II or higher certification in one or more of the following areas is preferred: automatic sprinkler system layout, fire alarm systems, or special hazard suppression systems. Three to five years of progressive experience performing engineering designer/technician and CAD tasks in the employ of a fire protection systems contractor or engineering design and consulting firm is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients are required.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  NICET Level II or Higher (Preferred), Valid driver’s license (required), U.S. Citizen or valid work permit (Required).
